Anxiety can be a tricky emotion, this is because it can be healthy and at the same time be unhealthy, there are normal levels of anxiety as well as disproportionate levels which can be dangerous because it can lead to being a medical disorder which is not something anyone wants to deal with.

Normal levels of anxiety are known as mild anxiety which are vague and then there is severe anxiety which can hinder your daily lifestyle and weirdly enough, less than 50% suffering from anxiety is receiving treatment for it.

Anxiety is formed by constant worry and fear. The body reacts to anxiety by means of intensified emotion, faster heartbeat and sweating. Anxiety can also be caused by a number of things such as work, money, health, family and even education.

Here are some signs to look out for:

  • uncontrollable feeling of worry
  • concentration difficulties
  • irritability
  • feeling edgy

However, it is good to know that this symptoms are normal to experience but people who have GAD will unfortunately experience these symptoms way worse.

There are also different types of anxiety disorders such as:

  • GAD( Generalised Anxiety Disorder) – this is the most common disorder as it is long lasting
  • Panic disorder – this normally happens when people have to speak in front of a crowd, someone trying to scare you, etc. this normally leaves the person shaking, dizzy, confused and with breathing difficulties.

Now that we have a little background about what anxiety is, how it is caused and what symptoms to look out for, let’s look at how we can deal with it.

Most people find it difficult to deal with anxiety because they are constantly faced with it; such as in the workplace.

Get off social media

When having anxiety, it is important to ensure that social media is one of the things you are staying away from. This means scrolling through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter isn’t beneficial, this is because there are so many people especially young people who are constantly comparing themselves to others on social media, who have already reached their goals. No one shows their bad side on social media and that is something to come to terms with, especially when you are still in the process of reaching your goals.

  • Procrastination

Worrying about your future isn’t going to make it any better, but sitting around worrying about your future and not taking any steps to achieve any life goals will hinder you. Set daily goals that you want to achieve and try to achieve them every day then try to achieve bigger goals and you will see that trying to achieve the bigger goals is actually not so difficult.

  • Create a healthy routine

Exercising can be a great way of dealing with anxiety because not only will you be too busy exercising to be worrying but you will also be bettering our health. Exercise helps a lot when it comes to taking stress away so use this to your advantage.

  • Meditation/ breathing

Meditation is known for its wonderful way of helping people clear their minds from negativity, stress etc. Most people find it very useful to meditate in the morning and at night before going to bed, so this is definitely a good way of letting go of my anxiety.

  • Acceptance

Many sometimes find it difficult to let go of the inevitable thus, leaving them in a constant state of worry and “what if” moment. It can be a real challenge overcoming pain and fear but focusing on them will not change the outcome and coming to terms with the events.

  • Pay attention to good things in life

Replacing negative thoughts with good thoughts often helps, also just writing down what you are thankful for everyday is good and will aid you to having good thoughts.
